Introduction

FaceHarmony is an online rating tool which measures a face‘s front and side profile against a large database of attractive faces.FaceHarmony measures 34 different traits across over 25 points to create accurate assessments of facial harmony, facial angularity, sexual dimorphism, and other miscellaneous features.

Our Rating System

FaceHarmony securely and anonymously compares submitted photos to a database of over a thousand faces. To our knowledge, this is the largest and most detailed database of faces annotated with facial traits.

We use this database to determine the traits which are shared among the most attractive faces. These differ by sex and ethnicity, which we take into account. Since our database contains not only the most attractive people but a broad swathe of people, we can also measure how much a deviation from the ideal affects attractiveness. This allows us to not only tell our users whether a submitted pictures adheres to the ideal or not, but also how much deviation from the ideal reduces attractiveness.

We can then combine the measurements of these traits to calculate ratings of subcategories and overall attractiveness. Calculation is complicated by the fact that not all traits affect attractiveness equally. Considerable time was spent fine-tuning how each trait was weighed.
